Assam is preparing for a high-profile two-day visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi beginning September 13, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chairing meetings to ensure a grand reception.
The visit coincides with the birth centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika, where Modi will release a Rs 100 commemorative coin in honor of the legendary cultural icon.
On September 14, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Guwahati Ring Road and a new bridge over the Brahmaputra River, projects expected to ease traffic congestion and boost connectivity in the region. He will also lay the foundation stone for Mangaldoi Medical College Hospital, expanding healthcare infrastructure in central Assam.

In Golaghat district, Modi will dedicate a bio-ethanol plant at Numaligarh Refinery Limited, built at a cost of Rs 4,200 crore. Officials said the facility is a step toward promoting clean energy and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
State authorities emphasized that the visit will mark both infrastructural progress and cultural pride for Assam. The combination of connectivity projects, healthcare expansion, and renewable energy initiatives underscores what leaders described as “a transformative moment” for the state.
