Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a two-day visit to Assam from December 20, inaugurating major infrastructure projects and engaging with students and party workers in a tour highlighting the Centre’s development focus on the Northeast.
The visit features the inauguration of Guwahati’s new airport terminal, foundation laying for a ₹10,000 crore fertiliser plant, and homage to martyrs of the historic Assam Movement.
New Airport Terminal Takes Centre Stage
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the new terminal building of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on December 20. Built at an estimated cost of ₹4,000 crore, the facility features modern architecture and enhanced passenger amenities.
An 80-foot statue of Bharat Ratna Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi will be unveiled at the airport premises, honouring Assam’s first Chief Minister.
Urban Infrastructure Boost
Plans for an elevated corridor on the airport road have been announced to improve connectivity between the airport and Jalukbari, aiming to reduce traffic congestion while enhancing urban aesthetics. Following the inauguration, PM Modi will interact with BJP workers at the party’s state office.
Brahmaputra Event and Martyrs’ Tribute
On December 21, the Prime Minister will board the Charaideo vessel at Guwahati’s river terminal to participate in ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ with select students. He will pay homage to 855 martyrs of the Assam Movement at Swahid Smarak in Boragaon.
Major Industrial Investment in Dibrugarh
PM Modi will travel to Dibrugarh to lay the foundation stone for the Namrup-IV Ammonia-Urea project. The ₹10,000 crore brownfield facility at Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited will produce 12 lakh metric tonnes of urea annually, marking a new phase of industrialisation in Assam.
