Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate Assam’s first ‘Vande Bharat Express’ today, marking a significant step towards enhancing connectivity and boosting tourism in the region. This state-of-the-art train service will provide faster and more comfortable travel options for residents and visitors alike.
In an event scheduled for today at 12 noon, PM Modi will flag off the new express service via video conference, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The ‘Vande Bharat Express’ will connect Guwahati and New Jalpaiguri, saving approximately one hour of travel time compared to the fastest train currently operating on this route.
PM Modi will also dedicate the newly electrified sections of the 182-kilometer long route to the nation. The upgrade to electrification is expected to provide pollution-free transport, in addition to reducing travel time.
The inauguration of the ‘Vande Bharat Express’ promises not only to enhance transport connectivity in Assam but also to boost local tourism. The PMO statement highlights that the introduction of this high-speed train will enable people in the region to travel swiftly and comfortably.
Alongside the new train service, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate a newly constructed DEMU/MEMU shed at Lumding in Assam. This development paves the way for electric trains to expand further into the Northeast, potentially reaching as far as Meghalaya.
