The Union government has nominated Dr BKS Sanjay, a Padma Shri award-winning orthopedic surgeon, as the new President of AIIMS Guwahati, officials announced on Wednesday.
Dr Sanjay, a renowned clinician, researcher and academician, has earned international recognition for his contributions to orthopedics, with his name featured in both the Guinness World Records and the Limca Book of Records. His extensive research has been published in leading international medical journals.
With a distinguished career spanning more than 45 years, Dr Sanjay trained in India before pursuing advanced fellowships in Sweden, Switzerland, Japan, the United States and Russia. His global experience and pioneering work have been widely credited with advancing orthopedic practice and patient care.
Medical professionals have welcomed his appointment, noting that his leadership is expected to enhance AIIMS Guwahati’s role as a premier medical institution in the Northeast. “Dr Sanjay’s vast experience in clinical research and teaching will be invaluable for the growth of AIIMS Guwahati,” a senior faculty member said.
AIIMS Guwahati, inaugurated in 2023, is one of the latest additions to India’s network of premier health institutions under the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. Dr Sanjay’s appointment is expected to strengthen the institute’s academic, research and healthcare delivery frameworks.
