Oil India Limited could be the target of ULFA (I)! Assam Police issues warning

ULFA (I), which has strengthened its organizational base with massive recruitment campaigns, could commit sporadic incidents in the southern oil fields at any moment! Oil India Limited (OIL) has issued a directive to contractors working in the oil industry to take precautions based on worrying information received by the Assam Police Intelligence Department.

In this regard, the OIL authorities held a closed-door meeting with the heads and officers of the contracting companies to discuss possible disturbances by the ULFA (I) in the coming days. They also discussed the precautions to be taken in the oil fields.

The rebels kidnapped two employees of a foreign oil exploration company in the Inao area of Arunachal Pradesh last year and held them captive for nearly three months. Three employees of the Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) were on April 21, 2021 kidnapped by ULFA(I) militants from the Lakwa oilfield in Sivasagar district along the Assam-Nagaland border.

Oil authorities held an emergency meeting with private contractors to discuss security issues after intelligence agencies received information that similar incidents could happen again. The OIL authorities held a security meeting after intelligence agencies received information that several ULFA (I) groups were hiding in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts.

Confirming the development, OIL spokesperson Tridiv Hazarika said east mojo that they have received intelligence input from Assam Police, highlighting the possibility of the target of vital installations and kidnapping officials in Upper Assam. Accordingly, an internal security review meeting was held on Wednesday, and several decisions were taken considering the recent security alert.

“There is information in the hands of various intelligence agencies that there may be some terrorist activities on the ULFA. And for that, they are trying to prepare themselves or provide security to the people. But Mr. Paresh Barua is also saying that they have no such plans. So without going into too much debate on this issue, as long as our people can stay safe, an environment for business has been created in Assam. If we can create an environment of peace in Assam, we can take Assam to a much higher level in the next 4-5 years. Therefore, I think that as an Assamese, the ULFA certainly does not think of any attack on Assamese soil.” Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma added.
