Northeastern states are under a heavy rain warning- IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an “orange alert” for the region’s northeast through Tuesday, forewarning of heavy to extremely heavy rain in many areas. IMD’s “orange warning” is a warning to disaster management organizations to “be ready” for anything. Just a few days ago, the northeastern states saw nonstop rain.

This has caused daytime temperatures to drop by up to 10 degrees Celsius below average in some parts of the northeast. Even in Guwahati, the capital of Assam, temperatures dropped sharply during the day. On Sunday, the high was only 21.2 degrees Celsius. The IMD said that in most places in Meghalaya and in a few places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Mizoram, and Tripura, there was light to moderate rain in the last 24 hours. During that time, isolated areas over Nagaland and Manipur had light rain. On Sunday evening, the IMD’s Regional Meteorological Center in Guwahati issued a 24-hour rain forecast for Meghalaya that included isolated areas of heavy to very heavy rain.

For the same time period, the alert says that heavy rain is likely in some parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. The IMD says that strong low-level southerly and southwesterly winds are likely to keep blowing from the Bay of Bengal to northeast India over March 19–21.(Sunday to Tuesday). The northeast region will likely have broad to widespread downpour activity, heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds through Tuesday, according to the Met Office.

IMD forecasts a mostly cloudy sky with a few brief periods of rain or thundershowers for Monday in Guwahati and the surrounding area. The highest and lowest temperatures that are most likely to happen during that time are 27 and 19, respectively. On Sunday, rain made daytime temperatures in the Northeast drop by a lot. Silchar, in southern Assam, had the biggest change from normal, with a drop of 10.1 degrees Celsius in the highest temperature. On Sunday, Silchar had a high temperature of 22.4 degrees Celsius.
