Newly appointed president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, MP Gaurav Gogoi, arrived in his home district and parliamentary constituency of Jorhat on Saturday. Landing at Rowriah Airport from Delhi, thousands of enthusiastic Congress workers greeted him with vibrant traditional songs, dances, and bouquets, creating a lively, festive atmosphere inside and outside the airport.
Congress workers warmly felicitated Gaurav Gogoi with traditional Assamese gamosas at the airport. Meanwhile, a large crowd gathered at Jorhat Stadium, where supporters joyfully welcomed him with spirited performances of Bihu and Jhumur dances.
After taking charge, Gaurav Gogoi visited his ancestral home at Nazira Ali in Jorhat town, where he offered floral tributes to the portrait of his late father, Tarun Gogoi, and sought blessings for his new political journey.
Speaking to the gathering, Gaurav Gogoi declared, “Today’s overwhelming crowd at Rowriah Airport caused some chaos, which I didn’t expect, and I apologize for any inconvenience. My father, the late Tarun Gogoi, launched his political career from Jorhat, and I proudly follow in his footsteps by starting this new responsibility here.”
He continued, “I will tirelessly address critical state issues, like the artificial flooding affecting Guwahati and Lakhimpur, which we’ve all seen. Since before the Lok Sabha elections, we’ve actively prepared for the 2026 Assembly elections, which will mark our main battle.” Addressing concerns about factionalism, he firmly stated, “Congress has no room for factional politics. The only lobby we have is that of Assam’s people.”
Joining Gaurav Gogoi were the newly appointed working presidents of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, including Zakir Hussain Sikdar, Rozelina Tirkey, and Pradeep Sarkar, alongside Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia, MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed, Bhaskar Baruah, and other Congress leaders.
Party sources confirmed that Gaurav Gogoi will visit Nazira tomorrow, then proceed to Sivasagar to spend the night. On June 2, he will travel to Kaliabor and stay overnight in Nagaon. On June 3, he will arrive in Guwahati.
