Modi, Shah to Bolster BJP’s Lok Sabha Campaign in Assam

Assam’s Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah has announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah will be visiting the state in the coming days to address election rallies ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

According to Baruah, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be visiting Assam on April 7 and 8, during which he is scheduled to address three election rallies in Hojai, Lakhimpur, and Gohpur.

The minister further revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Assam on April 17 and is expected to address a campaign rally in Nalbari.

“Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Assam on April 7 and 8. He will address three election rallies–in Hojai, Lakhimpur and Gohpur. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, too, will visit our state on April 17 and address an election campaign rally in Nalbari,” Baruah told ANI on Thursday.

The minister expressed confidence that the state BJP unit, cadres, and allies are fully prepared to face the upcoming elections. He stated that the party’s sole aim is to ensure that Prime Minister Modi is re-elected for a third consecutive term.

“We hope that other senior party leaders will visit Assam. Our state party unit, cadres and allies are fully geared to face the elections. Our only aim, going into these elections, is to make Narendra Modi the Prime Minister for a third consecutive term. We are preparing to gift at least 13 (Lok Sabha) seats from Assam to Modi-ji in his bid to return as PM,” Baruah said.

The elections to the 543 Lok Sabha seats will be held in seven phases starting from April 19, with the counting of votes scheduled for June 4. In Assam, the 14 Lok Sabha seats will be contested in three phases on April 19, April 26, and May 7.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had won 9 seats in Assam, while the Congress and the AIUDF had won 3 and 1 seat, respectively. The BJP had secured the highest vote share at 36.4%, followed by the Congress at 35.8%.

The upcoming visits by PM Modi and Home Minister Shah are expected to boost the BJP’s election campaign and solidify its hold in the state, as the party aims to retain and potentially increase its tally of Lok Sabha seats from Assam.
