Meet Gitika Talukdar, Assam Girl who create history becoming the only female photographer in FIFA World Cup from Northeast India

Gitika Talukdar, a photojournalist from Assam, documented the globally fascinating international football world cup. Gitika Talukdar is the ‘only’ female journalist from North East India in Qatar to cover the ‘FIFA World Cup 2022. While the celebrations were global, Gitika was silently shining and sparkling on the event’s sidelines, solely representing Northeast India.

Gitika was born in Arunachal Pradesh. Her father’s job involved frequent travel, so Gitika grew up in various locations across the country. She did her schooling in different Kendriya Vidyalayas. Later she chooses to pursue a Master’s in Global Sports Management and carry out research on Gender Inequalities in Sports Media at Seoul National University. The Ministry of Sports and Culture, Govt of the Republic of Korea, gave her a Scholarship.

She started her career with a photo news agency, and parallelly, she also contributed to various local media. Before switching her profession to sports journalism, she worked with many leading publications.

Gitika has been working for the past 16 years fighting against the odds and she captured some of the best memories on the field. Gitika worked in various high-profile sports globally, such as The National Games 2007, Commonwealth Games 2010, IPL Series 2013 till present, ISL Series 2014 till present, FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, AFP Cup 2019, South Asian Games 2016, India Pakistan Leagues and ICC Women’s World Cup.

She was also in charge of the Tokyo Olympics, the FIFA World Cup 2018, and the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Gitika was officially accredited and selected by FIFA to cover memories on the ground. Gitika’s success as one of India’s leading female sports journalists against all odds has made the people of the northeast, along with the nation, proud.
