A 33-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly carrying out a robbery at a residence in Guwahati’s Borbari area, police said on Friday.

The accused has been identified as Tridip Kumar Das, a resident of Misamari town in Assam’s Sonitpur district. According to police officials, Das had been staying in Guwahati with his fiancée, who is employed as a teacher at a private school in the city.

The robbery took place last Saturday at a flat located in the Doordarshan Colony area of Borbari. Following the incident, the victim, identified as Mrinal Boro, lodged a complaint with the police, prompting an investigation.

Officials from Dispur Police Station said that the accused was traced and arrested with the help of technical analysis and CCTV footage collected from the area. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

During the operation, police recovered a dummy gun that was allegedly used by the accused during the robbery. Investigators believe the replica weapon was used to intimidate the occupants of the residence.

According to the police, Das allegedly entered the flat when only a minor was present inside. He is accused of threatening the child with the dummy firearm before searching the premises. Police said the accused then targeted an almirah and allegedly fled with cash and other valuables from the residence.

The incident triggered concern among residents of the area, particularly because a minor was reportedly alone in the house at the time of the robbery. Authorities said the prompt investigation and analysis of surveillance footage helped identify the suspect and led to his arrest.
