Larsen & Toubro’s Buildings & Factories division has secured an EPC contract from the Government of Assam for the redevelopment of RG Baruah Sports Complex in Guwahati, featuring a new FIFA-compliant football stadium.
The project marks a significant upgrade to Assam’s sports infrastructure, positioning Guwahati to host international football events.
World-Class Football Venue
The new stadium will accommodate 25,000 spectators and meet FIFA standards for international matches. The design incorporates modern amenities and facilities required for hosting top-tier football competitions.
Beyond the main stadium, the redevelopment includes construction of various sports and related facilities within the complex, transforming RG Baruah into a comprehensive sporting hub for the Northeast.
27-Month Timeline
L&T has committed to delivering the project within 27 months under the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) model. The company will handle all aspects from design through construction and commissioning.
Boost for Northeast Sports
The FIFA-compliant stadium will address a long-standing infrastructure gap in the region, enabling Guwahati to bid for national and international football tournaments. Currently, the Northeast lacks venues meeting international football federation standards.
The redeveloped RG Baruah Sports Complex is expected to catalyze sporting culture in Assam while providing athletes with world-class training and competition facilities.
The project underscores the state government’s commitment to developing premier sports infrastructure in Guwahati, positioning the city as a major sporting destination in eastern India.
