Liquor sales are increasing in Guwahati city. The sale of alcohol increases during various festivals and puja days. And the revenue of Assam is increasing by selling alcohol.
The treasury of Assam is swelling from the income of the Excise Department. Last year, the liquor sold in Guwahati city alone surpassed the previous decade’s records.
According to the Assam Excise Department, as of November last year, 1.42 crore liters of liquor were sold in Guwahati city. India Made foreign liquor (IMFL) is 76 lacks 50 thousand 315 liters out of this.

In 2021, 1 crore 26 lacks 96 thousand 643 liters of liquor were sold in Guwahati during this period. And in 2019-20, 1 crore 22 lacks 77 thousand 538 liters of liquor were sold in Guwahati.
According to the Excise Department, 1 crore 11 lahks 24 thousand 742 liters of liquor were sold in Guwahati in 2015-16. The lowest liquor sales during this period were in 2017-18. Only 78 lakh 37 thousand 424 liters of liquor were sold that year.
Revenue from liquor increased in Assam last year. Even then, the sale of liquor there did not decrease.

During Durga Puja and Vishwakarma Puja, liquor sale increases significantly. Even if there is no special event, there is a crowd in Guwahati’s liquor store.
Officials of Assam Excise Department said that the rate of alcohol consumption has increased in Guwahati city in the last two years. Sales of beer and IMFL in Guwahati increased by around 15 percent during the year 2022-23 as compared to 2021-22.
