In a significant development, the Additional Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the northeast zone, IPS officer Binod Kumar Singh, has been transferred back to his parent cadre following a complaint of misconduct from a female employee stationed at the Guwahati International Airport.

According to reports, the woman, in her written complaint, alleged that the senior officer attempted to forcibly hug her against her will during an incident at the airport premises. The complaint, lodged by Chief Airport Officer Utpal Baruah, detailed the officer’s alleged inappropriate behavior.

“He persistently stared at me, making me uncomfortable. He commented on my smile, teeth, and lips, insisting I take his contact information for future assistance. He even demanded I text him immediately to exchange details. Then, he expressed a desire to hug me, despite my refusal. He then proceeded to forcibly pull me towards him, attempting to hug me tightly. I had to resist and request he cease his inappropriate behavior,” the complaint stated.

In response to the serious allegations, the CRPF swiftly initiated action, and Singh was transferred back to his parent cadre on April 2.

However, following an apology from the IPS officer during a WhatsApp call facilitated by the Chief Airport Officer, the complainant withdrew her complaint against Singh.

The incident has sparked concerns about workplace misconduct and the safety of women employees, prompting discussions about the need for stricter measures to address such issues within the ranks of law enforcement agencies.

Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken if the allegations are found to be substantiated. The CRPF has reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe and professional work environment for all its personnel, irrespective of gender.
