IPS officer Anand Mishra, part of the Assam-Meghalaya Cadre (2011 RR Batch), has announced his resignation from the Indian Police Service. Currently holding the position of Superintendent of Police in Lakhimpur, Mishra’s resignation will be effective from January 16, 2024.
In a letter addressed to the chief secretary, SP Mishra stated, “This is to submit my unconditional resignation from the IPS to pursue a life of freedom and independence that I want to realize through various social services and other means that are beyond the mandate of IPS.” The officer aims to contribute to society through endeavors beyond the scope of his current role.
Prior to his resignation, Anand Mishra and another police official, APS Randeep Kumar Baruah, were placed at the disposal of the Government of Manipur to lead Special Investigation Teams (SITs) investigating incidents in Manipur. This move was in line with the Supreme Court’s directives following the Manipur violence.
Known for his dedicated efforts in combating issues such as the state’s drug problems, cattle smuggling, and robbery, Anand Mishra has gained popularity and millions of internet followers. His notable assignments include serving as the Superintendent of Police in both Dhubri and Nagaon, with his transfers attracting significant attention.
