Internet services are to be suspended in 25 districts of Assam on August 21 and 28 – Here’s why

On Wednesday, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the internet services will be suspended ahead of the direct recruitment exam for nearly 30,000 grade III and IV posts will commence in the districts on August 21 and 28.

Chief Minister Sarma asked the respective authorities to restrict the internet service during the examination hours in the districts having examination centers to ensure smooth conduct of the exams while attending a virtual meeting with DCs and other stakeholders.

Around 14 lakh candidates are expected to appear in the exams.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Let the mobile internet service be shut down for at least three hours during the examinations on respective days.”

Sarma also shared the SOPs and asked the DCs to stick to these letters and work with adequate security measures.

The CM asked the DGP to deploy an officer of the rank of SP in every district, and the SP will be overall in charge of the security of all centers in the district.

The DGP was also asked to deploy a sub-inspector rank officer in every state center. Furthermore, zero tolerance will be entertained towards those who try to practice spreading rumors during the recruitment process.
