India Post has launched drone-based transmission of Branch Post Office mail bags in Assam, marking the postal department’s first drone-based delivery operation in the state.
The initiative is being implemented in partnership with Skye Air Mobility, with 40 drone routes planned across Assam as part of a wider network covering 150 routes in Assam and Himachal Pradesh, according to a social media post by India Post.
The drone-based service is aimed at transmitting mail bags between Branch Post Offices using unmanned aerial technology. The launch marks a significant step in the postal department’s use of drone technology for mail transmission in Assam.
According to India Post, the Assam routes form part of a larger 150-route drone network spanning Assam and Himachal Pradesh. Of these, 40 routes are located in Assam.
The initiative is being carried out in collaboration with Skye Air Mobility, which is supporting the drone-based postal transmission system. The launch also marks the first drone run undertaken by India Post in Assam.
The deployment of drones for Branch Post Office mail bags is part of India Post’s efforts to use emerging technology in its postal operations. The network will cover multiple routes across the two states as part of the broader drone-based transmission initiative.
