Heavy overnight rainfall triggered severe water-logging across several parts of Guwahati on Sunday, creating flood-like conditions in Rukminigaon and along Zoo Road, disrupting normal life and traffic movement.
In Rukminigaon, knee-deep water inundated several residential and commercial areas, forcing residents and rickshaw pullers to wade through waterlogged streets. The flooding caused major inconvenience for commuters as roads remained submerged, making movement difficult in the locality.
Zoo Road also witnessed extensive water-logging after the overnight downpour, with large stretches of the road completely submerged under water. The flooding severely affected vehicular movement, resulting in traffic congestion and delays for commuters travelling through the area. Motorists were forced to navigate through waterlogged stretches, adding to the disruption caused by the heavy rain.
The overnight rainfall once again exposed Guwahati's recurring urban flooding problem, particularly in low-lying areas that experienced significant water accumulation. Several parts of the city reported flood-like conditions as rainwater remained stagnant on roads, affecting both pedestrians and vehicles.
The widespread waterlogging highlighted the persistent drainage challenges faced by the city during spells of heavy rainfall. With roads submerged and traffic movement disrupted, residents encountered considerable difficulties in carrying out their daily activities as flood-like conditions prevailed in multiple localities across Guwahati.
