Guwahati Railway Station, the Northeast’s busiest rail hub, will soon have a new platform to ease congestion and improve passenger handling capacity, announced Northeast Frontier Railways General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava on Wednesday.
The announcement came during the inauguration of renovated AC retiring rooms, dormitory facilities, and reserved lounge at the station, which currently operates seven platforms.
Platform 8 to Boost Operations
The upcoming eighth platform will significantly enhance operational efficiency at the station, which handles heavy daily train and passenger traffic.
“Guwahati station handles a large number of trains and passengers every day. The upcoming Platform No. 8 will strengthen the station’s infrastructure and improve overall train movement,” Shrivastava said.
Upgraded Facilities at Unchanged Rates
The refurbished AC retiring rooms and dormitory feature modern interiors, new furniture, improved washrooms, and enhanced hygiene standards. Despite extensive renovations, NF Railways has decided to maintain existing tariffs.
“The charges for the retiring rooms and dormitories will remain the same so that passengers can avail upgraded facilities without any additional financial burden,” the General Manager added.
Enhanced Passenger Amenities
The renovated reserved lounge now offers clean drinking water facilities, free Wi-Fi connectivity, and improved seating arrangements, benefiting passengers with long waiting periods.
Kamakhya Junction Next in Line
Similar passenger-centric initiatives are planned for Kamakhya Junction Railway Station. Upgrades to waiting areas, retiring rooms, and other amenities form part of NF Railways’ broader modernization plan for key stations across Assam and the Northeast.
Railway officials reiterated that improving passenger experience remains a top priority, with several infrastructure and service upgrades in the pipeline.
