Newly appointed Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President, MP Gaurav Gogoi, officially assumed his role at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati on Tuesday. Outgoing President Bhupen Kumar Borah handed over the responsibilities to Gogoi. The APCC headquarters in Guwahati was filled with a festive atmosphere on the day Gogoi took charge.
Addressing the gathering, Gogoi said, “I may be new to this position, but our ideology remains unchanged. The Congress party’s core principle is to ensure equal rights and justice for all, an ideal enshrined in the Constitution.”
Gogoi also praised the dedication, sacrifices, and leadership of outgoing President Bhupen Kumar Borah, acknowledging his significant contributions to the party.
Alongside Gogoi, three newly appointed Working Presidents—Jakir Hussain Sikdar, Roselina Tirkey, and Pradip Sarkar—also assumed their roles on Tuesday. Prominent Congress leaders, including AICC general secretary and in-charge of Assam Congress, Jitendra Singh, Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, and MP Rakibul Hussain, among others, attended the event.
Notably, on May 26, All India Congress Committee President Mallikarjun Kharge appointed Gaurav Gogoi, a three-time Lok Sabha MP from Assam, as the APCC President. After assuming the role, Gogoi arrived in his constituency, Jorhat, on May 31 directly from New Delhi. He was warmly welcomed by several Congress leaders and workers at Rowriah Airport in Jorhat. Subsequently, he visited various areas, including Titabor (represented by his late father, former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi), Nazira, Sivasagar, Kaliabor, Nagaon, and Morigaon, before reaching Guwahati on the evening of June 2.
On Monday morning, Gogoi offered prayers at the Kamakhya Temple before proceeding to Rajiv Bhawan, where he was warmly received by party leaders and workers.
