Former BJP MLA Ashok Sarma Joins Congress in Assam, Citing Disrespect from Party Leadership

Congress Leadership Welcomes Veteran Politician, Highlighting Growing Discontent Within BJP Ranks.

Ashok Sarma Joins Congress

Week after resigning from Bharatiya Janta Patry, Fromer, MLA of Nalbari Ashok Sarma, joins the Congress Party on Friday at Nalbari Rajib Bhawan in the presence of Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi, Assam Congress Chief Bhupen Kumar Bora, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia, and other congress party workers.

It is noteworthy to add that Sarma spent more than 20 years working with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Previously, Sarma said that he was insulted by prominent BJP officials and other former members who were instrumental in the party’s ascent in the state but are now being disregarded by the party’s higher-ups.

“I am happy that he has decided to join a party where I worked for 23 years,” CM Sarma stated in response to Ashok Sarma’s choice to join the Congress party. I would urge him to disseminate information about the RSS within the Congress party. The opposition needs leaders of the Hindu faith, such as Ashok Sarma. I’m hoping he can successfully ingrain Sangh’s teachings within the Congress party.

Bhupen Borah, Chief of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), also greeted Ashok Sarma at the party and stated, “Many senior BJP leaders, including Ashok Sarma, have been disrespected under the current leadership.” The Congress party is dedicated to making sure they get the deference and accountability they are due.”

MP Gourav Gogoi stated, “Congress has a promising future, and many BJP leaders are likely to join.”

In 2016, the Nalbari Assembly Constituency elected Mr. Sarma as an honorable member of the legislative assembly. In 2021, Jayanta Malla Baruah took over Mr. Sarma’s seat in the Nalbari Constituency after his party denied him a ticket.
