A serious allegation has surfaced from Assam’s Dima Hasao district after a resident filed a First Information Report (FIR) accusing the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, Debolal Gorlosa, of issuing threats to his life during a phone call.
According to the FIR lodged with Maibang Police Station, the incident took place on June 11, 2025, at around 12:40 PM at the residence of the complainant, Rupanjit Langthasa, in Kasmaipur village near the Lumding-Silchar highway.
Rupanjit stated that an unidentified person came to his home and handed over a mobile phone, saying that the CEM wished to speak with him. The visitor was later identified as Thaodesh Langthasa, a resident of Dihur Phonglo village. Finding the situation suspicious, Rupanjit claims he recorded the interaction on his mobile phone.
In the FIR, Rupanjit alleges that the voice on the call—believed to be CEM Debolal Gorlosa—accused him of running a fake social media account under the name “Dima Hasao” and of posting defamatory material. Despite his denial, the caller allegedly issued direct verbal threats, referencing past violent incidents and warning of serious consequences.

The complainant also claimed the caller said he was being monitored by Dima Hasao police and that the Superintendent of Police had been aware of his online activities since January 2025. Citing growing fears for his safety, Rupanjit stated that he has fled the district and is now residing in undisclosed locations, including Guwahati.
Rupanjit further linked his concerns to past political violence, specifically referencing the murders of former CEM Purnendu Langthasa and Executive Member Nindu Langthasa, which allegedly involved Gorlosa during earlier periods of unrest in the region.
The FIR has been registered under applicable provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and includes a formal request for police protection and legal action against those involved.
As of the time of reporting, no official statement has been released by Debolal Gorlosa or the Dima Hasao district administration regarding the allegations.
This incident adds to the growing unease in the region, and the matter is likely to trigger both political and legal scrutiny in the coming days.
