On 30th May 2022, a poacher named Zakir was shot trying to escape from police custody. The poacher was arrested two days ago from Juria in Nagaon District. Zakir was an associate of the already dead rhino poacher Nalkur. Zakir tried to flee while taking the police to the concealed weapon location around 2 am on Monday; police opened fire on the poacher and sustained injuries. Police have reportedly rushed the injured smuggler to Tezpur Medical College Hospital (TMCH), but police have yet to provide any detailed information.
