A 32-year-old doctor has been arrested by Dispur Police for allegedly orchestrating an elaborate fraud scheme involving forged government work orders for medical equipment supplies, cheating multiple individuals and businesses out of substantial amounts of money.
The accused, identified as a resident of Bishnunagar on VIP Road in Guwahati, had been evading authorities since August 2023. Despite possessing legitimate medical credentials, he allegedly exploited his professional background to create a sophisticated scam, producing counterfeit government documents that promised lucrative supply contracts for medical equipment and goods.
The fraud came to light when Md. Samim Ali, a resident of FA Ahmed Nagar in Guwahati, filed a First Information Report (FIR) alleging that the doctor had promised him a profitable government supply contract and fraudulently collected ₹4 lakh under false pretenses. The victim believed he was entering into a legitimate business arrangement based on the official-looking documentation provided.
Subsequent police investigation revealed that the doctor employed similar fraudulent schemes to dupe multiple individuals across the region. Authorities discovered that he channeled the ill-gotten funds through his wife’s bank account, indicating a coordinated effort to conceal the money trail and avoid detection.
Police have registered the case under Dispur PS Case No. 446/2025, invoking multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) including sections 61(2)/318(4)/336(3)/316(2), which deal with various forms of fraud, cheating, and criminal conspiracy. After months of evading capture, the accused was finally apprehended and subjected to medical examination as part of standard legal procedures.
