A massive fire erupted in the heart of Sivasagar town last night, completely destroying a clothing store and an adjacent building. The blaze is estimated to have resulted in property damages worth around Rs 4 crore.
The fire broke out at approximately 10:45 pm at ‘Arunas,’ a local cloth shop situated on Hospital Road. Despite the swift response from the fire brigade, the fire was only brought under control at 2:30 pm, almost four hours after it began.
The fire brigade, with the help of more than 20 fire trucks, managed to douse the flames, with fire tenders brought in from not only Sivasagar but also nearby regions including Jorhat and Moran. Thankfully, all employees of the shop managed to escape unharmed. However, the material damage was considerable, with goods worth around Rs 4 crore being gutted in the fire.
While the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined, initial investigations point towards a possible short circuit as the trigger for the devastating fire. More thorough examinations will be conducted to confirm the origin and cause of the blaze.
Sivasagar District Superintendent of Police Shubhrajyoti Bora, District Collector Aditya Vikram Yadav, and former Thaora MLA Kushal Dowari visited the site to assess the situation and provide their support.
