Dense Fog in Delhi Causes Significant Delays for Assam-bound Rajdhani Express and Other Trains

As a cold wave tightens its grip on Delhi-NCR, dense fog has blanketed the region, leading to operational challenges for transportation services. Among the affected trains is the Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, known for its punctuality and efficiency. The adverse weather conditions have caused delays in the train’s schedule.

On December 27th, 2023, the visibility in Delhi-Safdarjung plummeted to a mere 50 meters, with Palam experiencing visibility at 125 meters. The Indian Meteorological Department issued warnings of dense to very dense fog in the mornings, impacting various modes of transportation.

The Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, operating with train number 12423, which typically departs from its source station at 20:55, has been running late by approximately 2:30 hours. Similar delays were observed on December 26th and 27th, with the train among the 25 affected due to dense fog, some experiencing delays exceeding five hours.

The fog has not only affected train schedules but has also disrupted flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport, leading to delays and diversions. Travellers are advised to check the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) for real-time updates on train schedules.

The winter season poses challenges for railway operations in India, particularly regarding reduced visibility affecting train speeds. Safety measures, including adherence to the General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR), mandate reduced speeds during foggy conditions to ensure the safety of passengers and efficient train operations.

As seasonal challenges persist, passengers are reminded to plan their journeys accordingly, considering the potential for delays during the winter months. While train services aim to navigate through adverse weather conditions, factors such as fog can impact travel itineraries.
