On August 11, CWG 22 gold Medal Winner Nayanmoni Saika reached Guwahati, where she got a grand welcome from her family, friends and well-wishers at Borjhar Airport in Guwahati. Nayanmoni’s mother-in-law and little daughter were also at the airport to welcome her.
A grand state welcome has been arranged where Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Sports Minister Bimal Bora and other senior officials and dignitaries would welcome and felicitate Nayanmoni.
Nayanmoni Saikia hails from Tengabari, a remote village in Assam’s Sarupathar area under Golaghat District of Assam. She is 14th in women’s triplets and fourth in women’s fours.
Nayanmoni Saikia is currently working as a Forest Officer. The Assam Forest Department has decided as she is currently employed as a constable in Assam Forest Department.
As per reports, Rajesh Singh, Superintendent of Police of the newly-formed Tamulpur district in BTR Assam, said, “She will soon become an Assistant Commandant, a rank equivalent to that of DySP as per our state’s policy as she has won the gold medal,”
Additionally, Nayanmoni’s husband, Bhaskar Jyoti Gohain, said, “Nayanmoni was a very dedicated weightlifter earlier. Her whole life revolved around sports. But a leg injury meant that her performance kept deteriorating. Till she found Lawn Bowls, that became her passion after that. She has faced many challenges in her life, but she never sacrificed the game,”
India’s lawn bowl teams create history at Commonwealth Games 2022, bringing home the first-ever gold medal at Lawn Bowl Evet, defeating South Africa. On Tuesday, defeating the South African Indian team created history at CWG.
Indian Lawn Bowl team includes four players: Lovely Choubey, Pinki, Rupa Rani Tirkey, and Nayanmoni Saikia.
It is worth mentioning that Nayanmoni represented Assam and India several times. In National Games held in 2011 and 2015, she won gold medals in individual and team events. Moreover, in 2012, during the Asian Lawn Bowls Championship, she was also able to bag the gold medal in the girl’s under-25 category.
