Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met boxer Lovlina Borgohain and handed her a cheque of ₹30 lakh in recognition of her silver medal-winning performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026.
During the meeting, Sarma congratulated the Assam boxer for her recent performance at the Games and expressed confidence that she would achieve greater success in the coming days.
"Met with our star performer Lovlina... I congratulated her on her recent performance at CWG2026 where she bagged a Silver. There's much more to come from her in the coming days," Sarma said.
Borgohain secured a silver medal for India in boxing at the Commonwealth Games, adding to the country's strong showing in the sport during the Games. Boxing accounted for a significant share of India's gold medal tally, with several Indian boxers finishing at the top of their respective events.
Preeti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, Sakshi Chaudhary, Priya Ghanghas, Arundhati Choudhary, Sachin Siwach and Ankush Panghal won gold medals for India in boxing. Jadumani Singh and Lovlina Borgohain secured silver medals.
The recognition for Borgohain comes as Assam continues to celebrate the performance of its athletes on the national and international stage. The ₹30 lakh assistance was presented to the boxer by the Chief Minister following her silver medal-winning campaign at CWG 2026.
Sarma's meeting with Borgohain also highlighted the state's recognition of sporting achievements and the contribution of athletes to India's performance at major international competitions.
