The central government has approved a new train service between Agartala and Guwahati (Narangi), marking a significant enhancement in railway connectivity for the Northeast region. The decision comes as a result of persistent advocacy by West Tripura MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
Announcing the development on social media, Deb expressed his gratitude to the central leadership for responding to the demands of Tripura’s residents. “Another achievement. I express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for approving the launch of a new rail service on the Agartala-Guwahati route, respecting the demands of the people of Tripura and prioritising passenger comfort,” he posted.

The new train service represents a major boost to railway connectivity in the Northeast, addressing a long-standing demand from residents of Tripura who have been seeking better rail connections to other parts of the region and the country. The Agartala-Guwahati route will provide a crucial link between Tripura’s capital and Assam’s largest city, facilitating easier movement of people and goods.
Guwahati, being the gateway to the Northeast, serves as a major transportation hub with connections to the rest of India. The new service will significantly reduce travel time and provide a more comfortable alternative to existing transportation options between the two cities.
