As a step towards maintaining peace and law and order in Assam, a tripartite peace agreement with tribal militant groups in the state is expected to be signed in the central capital on Thursday in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The peace accord is expected to be signed by the central government, Assam’s government, Assam, the five rebel groups of Assam, the All Adivasi National Liberation Army, Adivasi Cobra Militants of Assam, Birsa Commando Force, Santhal Tiger Force, and Adivasi People’s Army.

Officials said a tripartite agreement is expected to be signed with the five tribal association groups involved in the ceasefire agreement with the government.

The Assam-based tribal group has been violating the ceasefire since it was declared years ago, and they have been in peace talks since then. More than a hundred activists of this group are currently living temporarily in a camp set up under the protection of the Assam Police.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with senior officials of the Assam government, will be present during the signing of the agreement. Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla and other senior officials will also be present during the deal signing to bring peace to Assam and the Northeast.

Meanwhile, the Assam Chief Minister will meet the members of five extremist organizations at Assam House in the afternoon and go to the Home Ministry to sign the historic agreement. Earlier, he met with rebel tribal groups regarding the final settlement.

In January 2020, Union Home Minister Amit Shah signed a historic agreement between the Government of India, the Government of Assam, and Bodo representatives in New Delhi to end the more than 50-year-old Bodo crisis.

Following the agreement, 1,615 cadres of the three National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) parties laid arms on 30 January 2020. On this occasion, NDFB members kept more than 4,800 weapons, including AK-47 rifles, light machine guns, and stun guns.
