The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Pramod Boro, on Sunday underlined the transformative impact of the 2020 Bodo Peace Accord, noting a significant shift from decades of violence and unrest to peace, unity, and inclusive development across Bodoland.

Speaking at a special programme held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati, Boro said, “Decades after decades, Bodoland witnessed violence, killings, unrest, and so many movements of different groups and communities. It was a long-time prayer and wish of the people that transformation should happen in Bodoland.”

He stressed that the 2020 Accord, signed between the Central Government, the Assam Government, and various Bodo groups, served as a turning point. “After the Accord, the people of Bodoland could think about sustainable peace, growth, and development. We came to power to run the Council with the people’s mandate in 2020. Our focus has been to sustain peace and regain the lost trust and happiness of our people,” he added.

Boro lauded the growing sense of unity in the region, noting that 26 communities are now coming together in harmony. “I hope this kind of initiative and transformation will bring another dawn in Bodoland where we can see development everywhere,” he said.

The event also witnessed the inauguration of ‘Bodoland Speaks: From Vision to Action’, a key initiative of the BTC under the Bodoland Happiness Mission by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. The initiative aims to showcase the region’s journey of transformation and promote lasting peace and happiness.

During the event, CM Sarma launched several key publications and initiatives, including:

  • BTR Communication Bridge – A practical resource of 1001 words and 1001 sentences in 18 regional languages
  • Transforming Bodoland: A Journey of Change in BTR
  • Lookin’ Within: My Reflections, authored by Pramod Boro
  • The Annual Report of the Bodoland Happiness Mission (2024-25)

CM Sarma also conferred the Bodoland Lifetime Achievers Award on 18 distinguished personalities who have made outstanding contributions to enriching the folk cultures of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

Praising the efforts under the Bodoland Happiness Mission, Sarma said, “This mission is an excellent initiative to strengthen the peace and stability that the people of BTR have achieved over the last five years.”

Reflecting on the troubled past of Bodoland, the Chief Minister stated, “Since 1968, the region was marred by violence and turmoil. The demand for self-determination and the fear psychosis among communities made Bodoland one of the most disturbed areas. But now, the scenario is changing.”

He further emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring continued peace, development, and unity in the BTR.

The event stood as a testament to the collective strides made by Bodoland towards a peaceful and prosperous future—moving from a history of conflict to a new chapter of collaboration and hope.
