Phaagun Jyoti, a promising young tennis player from Assam, has secured the U-14 girls’ singles title at the All India National Ranking Championship Series Tennis Tournament held in Sonipat, Haryana, on Friday. The victory marks a significant achievement for the state’s developing tennis program.
Representing Assam with distinction, Phaagun displayed exceptional skill and determination throughout the tournament, culminating in a hard-fought championship match. In the final, she defeated Aashika Jaiswal of West Bengal in a compelling three-set contest that showcased her technical ability and mental resilience.
The final match proved to be a true test of endurance and adaptability as Phaagun navigated through dramatic momentum shifts. After winning the first set 6-3, she faced a challenging second set where she was unable to win a game, losing 0-6. However, demonstrating remarkable composure for her age, Phaagun regrouped to claim the decisive third set 6-3 and secure the championship.
