On Saturday, Assam’s Niraj Bora bags gold at Junior Asian Powerlifting Championship under, the world powerlifting championship held in Kyrgyzstan. Niraj also wins gold for the overall (raw) and Bench-press categories.
Niraj’s performance was as follows – Squat-220 KG (open knee), Benchpress-152.5 and Deadlift-245. Overall, he lifts a total of 618 KG.
Participants from 25 Asian countries were participated in this championship. A total of 7 participants were participated from India including Niraj.
22 years old Niraj hails from Rukminigaon of Guwahati. His mother is Purnima Bora, and his father is Sonit Kumar Bora. Niraj’s coach is Aren Fernandez, who hails from Bengaluru.
Talking to Assam Front, Niraj said – “I turn my dream into reality. I was very much hopeful for this Journey. At the same time, I am very happy to win gold for Assam as well as India.”
Niraj is currently pursuing his Masters’ in Mass Communication and Journalism from Cotton University.
Previously, he won a gold medal at the National Powerlifting Championship, which was held in Bengaluru in March 2022.
