Assam’s Legendary Xattriya exponent and Burha Xattriya of Barpeta Xatra Basistha Dev Sarma passed away. At age 84, he breathed her last at the GMCH at 4.56 pm on Saturday.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed grief over the death of Basistha Dev Sarma. Taking to Twitter, he wrote –
মহাপুৰুষ দুজনাৰ একান্ত অনুগামী, বৰপেটা সত্ৰৰ পৰম পূজনীয় বুঢ়া সত্ৰীয়া শ্ৰীযুত বশিষ্ঠ দেৱশৰ্মাদেৱ আছিল এক অনুষ্ঠান সদৃশ ৷ তেখেতৰ মহাপ্ৰয়াণৰ বাতৰিত মৰ্মাহত হৈছোঁ ৷ তেখেতে ৰিক্ত কৰা এই স্থান অপূৰণীয় হৈ ৰ'ব৷ pic.twitter.com/BZZ9Kyuzqj

It is worth mentioning that the Buhra xattriya has been undergoing treatment at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital since October 11. Basistha Dev Sarma has been on a ventilator for the last two days.
The Barpeta Satra Burha Xattriya Basistha Dev Sarma’s funeral will be held on Monday, October 24.
The body of xattriya exponent Dev Sarma will be taken to Barpeta on Saturday and kept at his residence in Sundaridia.
The devotees of Barpeta satra will pay their last respects to the Burha xattriya on Sunday, and a parikrama will be performed where his body will be taken around Barpeta.
It is worth mentioning that, in year 2017, Basistha Dev Sarma received the most prestigious Srimanta Sankardev Award.
