Assam’s government and Flybig have signed an agreement to launch intrastate flights

The Assam government on Saturday inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Big Charter Private Limited (Flybig) to facilitate aviation services in the non-Udaan sector in an effort to improve intra-state air connectivity.

According to a company spokesman, daily flights will be run by Flybig between the Guwahati-Silchar-Guwahati and Guwahati-Dibrugarh-Guwahati routes.

In the presence of the chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the agreement was signed by the managing director of the Assam Tourist Development Corporation, Kumar Padma Pani Bora, and the director of Flybig, Sanjay Natavarlal Mandavia. The Contract stipulates that the flight operations will begin in accordance with the Udan programme of the Center, with the state government operating the flights with viability gap funding.

Addressing at the event, Sarma stated that the number of daily flight services will be increased and that this will provide intra-state air connectivity a new dimension.

As it has been determined to monitor pricing with the maximum price set at Rs 4000, the services would provide assured connectivity and pricing.

According to him, the new flights will give Silchar’s Kumbhirgram Airport and Dibrugarh’s Mohanbari Airport fresh life.

According to Sarma, the state administration is also examining if it would be feasible to offer the same services in Jorhat, Tezpur, and other places throughout the state.

The state government’s budget plan, according to the chief minister, includes the provision for intra-state aviation services.
