The Director-General of Police (DGP) in Assam has issued firm instructions to seven accident-prone districts in the state, vowing strict action against drunk drivers and those violating traffic rules.

The districts of Kamrup, Kamrup City, Nagaon, Barpeta, Sonitpur, Nalbari, and Dhemaji have all been put on notice by the DGP, with an action plan formulated to prevent accidents. The police department has decided to adopt a zero-tolerance policy in these districts against drunk driving and traffic rule violations.

The new directive comes after comprehensive data was collected detailing accident-prone districts, peak times for accidents, and their specific locations. This in-depth analysis will inform the measures taken to enhance road safety in these areas.

“Strict action will be taken even if there is a violation of traffic rules. The zero tolerance policy will be adopted by the department,” stated the DGP, signaling a proactive step to curb road accidents and ensure safer travel for residents in these regions.
