In a proud moment for Assam’s healthcare sector, Smt. Binapani Deka, a Lady Health Visitor at the Additional Chief Medical and Health Officer’s Office in Nalbari, has been honored with the prestigious ‘National Florence Nightingale Award 2025,’ the highest recognition in India’s healthcare sector. She received this esteemed award from the Honorable President of India, Smt. Draupadi Murmu, during a grand ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

A resident of Raimadhar village in Kamarikuchi, Nalbari district, Binapani Deka was recognized for her exceptional contributions to maternal and child healthcare. Beginning her career in 1990 as an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) at the Jaziabari Sub-Health Centre, she later served as a Lady Health Visitor at Nalbari’s Shaheed Mukunda Kakati Hospital. Since 2023, she has been working in the same capacity at the Additional Chief Medical and Health Officer’s Office in Nalbari. Over her nearly 28-year career, her dedication and service-oriented mindset have set an inspiring example for the community.

A mother of three, Binapani Deka lost her husband, Tridip Lochan Das, in 2016. Her three sons are Trinkul Lochan Das, Mrinmoy Das, and Himangshu Das. Despite personal challenges, she has become a source of inspiration for society through her unwavering commitment to healthcare.

This year, 15 nurses and healthcare workers from across India were honored, including representatives from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and one each from the northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, and Assam.

Assam’s Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, congratulated Binapani Deka on this achievement through social media, stating, “Through Smt. Binapani Deka’s dedication and service, Assam’s healthcare sector has earned a rare honor. Her success will inspire other healthcare workers as well.”

Binapani Deka’s achievement is a matter of pride for the people of Assam. Her accomplishment has not only elevated Nalbari but has also raised the standard of healthcare services across the state.
