Assam’s Biggest Bihu Performance Hits Guinness World Records

Bohag Bihu

With “the largest Bihu performance in a single place,” Assam made history. The Guinness World Records attempt involved around 11,000 Bihuwotis and Dhuliyas.

Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati set the record on April 13 at 5:30 p.m. It was moved forward from April 14 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The gigantic Bihu performance aimed to break the Guinness World Record for the largest Bihu dance performance at one site. This magnificent endeavour was part of the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government’s Rongali Bihu 2023 celebrations.

Artists auditioned across the state for this major event.

CM Sarma had hoped the event would highlight Assam and its culture.

The chief minister also announced that the state government would try to break two world records: the largest Bihu dance in a single frame and the largest Dhuliya drumming group.

The state government also acquired the “Assamese Gamusa” GI certificate.
