Amlan Borgohain from Assam broke the national record in 100 meters. Amlan finished in 10.25 seconds at the Inter Railway Athletics Championship held in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh. Amiya Kumar Malik held the previous record performance in 100m at 10.26 seconds. This is Amlan's best time yet. Amlan also set a national record in the 200m earlier this year. The coach also says that he wants to train Amlan for the National Games. He added that if he can perform better in 100m, it will reflect in 200m as well. Amlan started his sports career as a footballer. But his mother advised Amlan to switch to another sport as he was injured frequently. "My mother told me to either switch to another sport or quit it altogether. Playing football was not an option. It was a tough decision," said Amlan.
