Renowned music director Bhupen Uzir, who made immense contributions to Assamese cinema, died here on Thursday after suffering from respiratory illnesses.
Uzir had been admitted to The Nemcare Hospital since January 1 and breathed his last during treatment today.
The veteran artist leaves behind a rich legacy spanning a career of over 5 decades. He composed the soundtrack of many iconic Assamese films starting from the 1970s until recently.
The legend passing away marks the end of an important era in the cultural world of Assam.
From industry colleagues to listeners and ardent fans, many condoled his demise on social media calling it a huge loss for the state’s film and music landscape. The Assamese entertainment industry has lost one of its pillars and creative forces.
