The Assam government has decided to overhaul 97 existing Sanskrit Tols (schools) across the state into specialised institutions imparting education in traditional subjects like Vedas and Astrology along with modern sciences.
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu reviewed the tols in a meeting on Tuesday and set up a 7-member panel, headed by the VC of Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University, to formulate new modalities.
The revamped Sanskrit schools will integrate the teaching of Sanskrit, Vedas, Vastu Shastra and Astrology with mainstream subjects like mathematics and science, Pegu stated.
The committee has been asked to submit its recommendations within a month. Admissions to the rebranded Tols could start from the upcoming academic session after approvals, officials said.
The Minister said the initiative aims to provide holistic and value-based learning by combining traditional knowledge systems with modern education.
Authorities plan to transform the Sanskrit Tols into centres of excellence around the state to boost cultural education and preserve ancient scripts alongside contemporary subjects.
