Assam’s medal tally at the ongoing Khelo India Youth Games 2025 has risen to four, with the boys’ doubles table tennis team securing a silver medal in the latest addition to the state’s growing list of achievements.
The table tennis duo of Priyanuj Bhattacharya and Divyaj Roy Rajkhowa clinched silver in the boys’ doubles event, demonstrating Assam’s emerging strength in racquet sports at the national level. Their performance highlights the state’s developing prowess beyond its traditional sporting strongholds.
This latest medal comes after Assam’s impressive showing in swimming events, where the state has already pocketed three medals. Leading the charge was Janonjoy Jyoti Hazarika, who dominated the pool with double gold medals in the boys’ 50m butterfly and 100m butterfly events, establishing himself as one of the standout performers from the region.
The swimming contingent’s success extended to the girls’ events as well, with Subhranshini Priyadarshini securing a bronze medal in the women’s 200m freestyle competition, further demonstrating Assam’s depth of talent in aquatic sports.
The Khelo India Youth Games, a flagship national multi-sport event initiated by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, aims to promote grassroots sports development and identify young talent across the country. The competition serves as a platform for young athletes to showcase their abilities while receiving exposure to national-level competition.
With four medals now secured, Assam continues to build on its reputation as an emerging sports powerhouse from Northeast India. The state’s consistent performance at this year’s games reflects the growing investment in sports infrastructure and athlete development programs in the region.
