As per the directives of the Election Commission of India, a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list is scheduled to commence nationwide. To ensure the successful implementation of this program, the Chief Electoral Officer of Assam Anurag Goel has issued critical instructions to all District Election Officers. The Election Commission is expected to release the complete schedule for this revision within the next 15-20 days.
The directives from the Chief Electoral Officer’s office outline the following responsibilities for District Election Officers:
- Ensuring Presence of Officials: Ensure that Electoral Registration Officers (ERO), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AERO), and Booth Level Officers (BLO) are present at their workplaces and diligently perform their duties.
Appointment of Additional BLOs: Prepare proposals for appointing additional BLOs for new polling stations. Appointments can proceed only after approval from the Election Commission and issuance of directives by the Chief Electoral Officer.

- No Additional Responsibilities: After the announcement of the revision schedule, election officials, staff, and data entry operators should not be assigned any additional duties to maintain focus on the revision process.
- Exclusion from BTC Elections: District Election Officers and election staff should not be involved in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election activities. Alternative arrangements must be made for the BTC elections.
- Publication of Final Voter List: The final voter list of 2005, post-revision, has been published on the Chief Electoral Officer’s website. All recognized political parties and District Election Officers have been informed accordingly.
- Operationalizing District Contact Centers: District Contact Centers must be made functional. Staff should be appointed to handle digitization and receive phone calls through the NGSP portal daily. No additional budget will be provided for these activities.
The Chief Electoral Officer emphasized that this revision will enhance the reliability of the voter list, ensuring greater transparency in upcoming elections. All recognized political parties have been urged to cooperate in this process.
