Assam Police have arrested four drug traffickers and recovered contraband worth Rs 6 crore during a raid in Cachar district’s Fulertal village on Thursday.
The apprehended individuals were found carrying 38 soap cases of suspected heroin (500 gm) and 15,800 Yaba tablets, stated SP Numal Mahatta.
Police said two of the peddlers hailed from Manipur, indicating the narcotics were being transported illegally from the neighbouring state. The other two belonged to Cachar district.
Acting on a tip-off, the district police team conducted the anti-drug trafficking operation and nabbed three persons from Shivapuri Khal (Manipur) along with a local resident.
Officials are investigating further to crack down on the smuggling network even as the significant drug haul is expected to deal a blow to the illegal trade prevalent along the inter-state border.
The rise in youth substance abuse remains an area of concern with affordable prices and easy accessibility to contraband from porous international boundaries facilitating circulation within Assam.
