Four Assam Police personnel have clinched a total of eight medals—five gold and three silver—at the World Police and Fire Games (WPFG) 2025, held in Birmingham, USA. All medals were secured in the wrist wrestling events.
Kandarapa Borah excelled by winning two gold medals in the right-hand and left-hand categories. Amlanjit Borthakur bagged a gold in the right-hand event and a silver in the left-hand event. Junmoni Das mirrored this achievement, earning a gold in the right-hand and a silver in the left-hand category. Lovita Koch contributed a gold in the left-hand event and a silver in the right-hand category.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the athletes on social media, describing their success as a moment of pride for Assam.
The World Police and Fire Games, a biennial Olympic-style event, brings together police officers, firefighters, customs, and correctional service personnel from across the globe. Organized by the California Police Athletic Federation (CPAF), it ranks among the world’s largest multi-sport competitions.
India currently holds the third position in the medal tally with 373 medals, including 174 gold. The United States tops the chart with 811 medals (351 gold), followed by Brazil with 469 medals (164 gold). The 2025 Games are set to conclude on Sunday.
