Assam: Men die in Police Custody, Angry mob set fire to the police station

Assam, Nagaon: An angry mob attacked the police station in the Batadrava assembly constituency of Nagaon district of Assam this afternoon following the death of a custodial person. Two policemen were injured in the attack. An angry mob ransacked the Batadrava police station, according to the information received. Later, the mob set the police station on fire, due to which the weapons kept in the police station were also burnt.

According to reports, Safikul Islam of Salnabari in Dhing was going to Sivasagar to sell fish when he was taken into custody by the Batadrava police. However, the deceased’s family members found that Safikul was dead and was sent to Nagaon Civil Hospital for post-mortem. After recovering the dead body, the agitated relatives surrounded the Batadrava police station and blocked the road by placing the dead body in front of the police station.

The villagers accused the policemen of brutally thrashing Safikul, leading to his death. Meanwhile, three people have been arrested for attacking the police station. Nagaon district police superintendent Leena Doley told reporters that we are still investigating the matter. We will bring forth what is right in this.
