Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Wednesday to investigate the sudden death of Zubeen Garg, addressing widespread public demand for a thorough and transparent probe.
The SIT will be headed by M.P. Gupta, Special Director General of Police (CID), with Rosie Kalita, Senior Superintendent of Police (CM Vigilance), serving as the Chief Investigating Officer. The team includes a mix of experienced officers, such as Additional SPs, Deputy SPs, Inspectors, and Sub-Inspectors from the CID and various districts. The investigation is registered under CID PS Case No. 18/2025, invoking sections 61(2)/105/106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Following a high-level meeting with the Director General of Police, Chief Secretary, and other senior officials, Sarma assured the public that the SIT would operate with full autonomy and comprise “Assam Police’s finest officers.” He emphasized the commitment to conducting the probe with utmost professionalism and integrity.
The Chief Minister also revealed that viscera samples from the late singer have been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in New Delhi for detailed forensic analysis. “We are determined to uncover the truth behind the tragic and untimely passing of our beloved Zubeen Garg. No stone will be left unturned,” Sarma stated.
Assam Police confirmed that all officers assigned to the SIT will remain dedicated to the investigation until its conclusion, ensuring a focused and comprehensive inquiry.
