Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday announced the restoration of the flood-affected railway section between Selenghat, Amguri, Simaluguri and Sivasagar Town, paving the way for the resumption of direct train services between Guwahati and Dibrugarh.
In a statement, the Chief Minister said the railway section was restored and made operational at 4:00 PM, marking the reopening of a crucial rail corridor that had been disrupted due to the recent floods in the state.
With the restoration of the affected stretch, direct train services connecting Guwahati and Dibrugarh via Lumding and Sivasagar are now set to resume, improving rail connectivity between Upper Assam and the rest of the country.
Expressing gratitude for the restoration work, Sarma thanked Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) team for their efforts in reopening the vital railway link.
The Chief Minister acknowledged the role of the railway authorities in completing the restoration work and ensuring that the important transport corridor is once again operational following disruptions caused by the floods.
The reopening of the Selenghat–Amguri–Simaluguri–Sivasagar Town railway section is expected to restore normal rail movement on the route and improve connectivity for passengers travelling between Guwahati, Upper Assam and other parts of the country.
