Assam Engineering College Directed to Report on Tragic Accident Claiming Seven Lives

Following the tragic accident that took seven lives of Assam Engineering College (AEC) students on Sunday night, the Higher Education Department of Assam has directed the Director of Technical Education and the Principal of AEC to submit a detailed report on the circumstances leading to this tragic incident.

The accident reportedly occurred around 1 AM when the students’ SUV lost control, hit a divider, and subsequently collided with a parked DI pickup van on the Jalukbari flyover road. Out of the ten students in the SUV, seven lost their lives, while six others were taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for emergency treatment.

In response to the tragic event, the AEC authorities have formed an investigation committee to delve into the factors that led to the accident. The committee has been instructed to submit a comprehensive report within two days.

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu expressed his concern on Twitter, stating, “Higher Education department has ordered the Director of Technical Education and the Principal of AEC to submit a report on the circumstances in which 7 students lost their lives in a tragic accident. The department is working on rules to be enforced in Institution campuses.”
