The Assam Cabinet, in its meeting on September 9, 2025, announced a series of key decisions ranging from disaster relief to student welfare and agricultural reforms.
Aid to Himachal Pradesh
The Cabinet approved a financial assistance of ₹5 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, Himachal Pradesh, to support the disaster-hit state. Officials said the gesture reflects Assam’s solidarity with states affected by natural calamities.
Scooters for Meritorious Students
In a move to encourage academic excellence, the Cabinet approved the distribution of scooters to students who secured 80 percent or higher in the 2025 Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examination. The initiative, under the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award, will benefit 11,250 students this year.
Streamlining Agricultural Marketing
To boost farmer incomes, the Cabinet approved amendments to the Assam Agricultural Produce and Livestock Marketing (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020. The changes are aimed at enhancing market access for small and marginal farmers, making agricultural trade more efficient and farmer-friendly.
Officials said the measures highlight the government’s focus on inclusive development, supporting disaster relief beyond state boundaries, incentivizing students, and empowering the rural economy.
