In Assam’s Nagaon district, the local administration got about 980 bighas of government land encroached free. However, people had illegally encroached upon this land. On Monday morning, taking an uncompromising stand, the administration launched an anti-encroachment campaign on this land with the help of bulldozers.
Officials said that a massive eviction drive was carried out in Bhumurguri Grazing Reserve, Jamai Basti, Rampur, Kadamoni area. Here the encroachers had occupied more than 980 bighas of land. At the same time, in view of people’s protests, more than 800 security personnel have been deployed in Batadraba.
Nagaon District Superintendent of Police Leena Doley said the district administration had already issued notices to the encroachers. Security personnel have been camping here since December 13 and are conducting flag marches. Many encroachers have already left the area after the notice, he said. As per reports, there were 302 illegal houses on government land, of which 72 structures are gone. We have got the full cooperation of the local people.
